As summer approaches, SoCal beaches will be to be some of the most popular places to spend time solo, or with friends and family. With over 60 miles of coastline, LA’s beaches start north near Point Dume and Malibu, all go the way to Long Beach towards the south.

Hands down, watching a rocket launch while at the beach is so Florida. Sometimes, while waiting for that launch window, breakfast, lunch or dinner comes to mind. Peninsula Drive, Ponce Inlet, is described as a laidback tavern with TVs and a close proximity to the lighthouse. The waterfront restaurant serves seafood, sandwiches, salads and other entrees and typically offers entertainment and happy hour. Right near the Manhattan Beach Pier is the family-owned and operated Rock’n Fish. The two-level space – with an enclosed outdoor patio, main dining room and bar, and upstairs loft – is known for fresh sea food, premium steaks, Kona pie dessert, and one of the prettiest back bars in LA. The menu comes courtesy of executive chef Antonio Urbano, who brings flair and a creative touch to enticing farm-to-table specials. While at the bar, don’t forget to try one of their legendary Navy Grog rum cocktails.

Cocktails and fresh seafood taste that much better when dining with a 650ft view of the Gulf of Mexico. The segue to chill is not a water view but the blur of preserve land that’s part of Jonathan Dickinson State Park. For a few soothing miles, there are no strip plazas or other signs of big-city life. By the time you’ve reached the first glimmers of Hobe Sound, you’ve shifted into island mode.

Diners also can enjoy a selection of “Malibu Specials” including lobster sweet and sour, albacore with Meyer lemon, and mini tacos. Top your meal off with the bento box of warm chocolate soufflé cake and signature sakes and enjoy the beautiful views surrounding you. Shaggy’s Pensacola Beach is a laid-back waterfront bar and grill that offers a seafood-centric menu, frozen daiquiris, an extensive craft beer list and more. The island-style vibes offer waterfront views from every seat in the establishment.

Atlantic Ave., Ponce Inlet, is a NASCAR-themed bar and grill with a beachfront deck, happy hour and entertainment. There aren’t many restaurants the same stunning space as the 18th floor Penthouse. Stationed in Santa Monica’s Huntley Hotel, the rooftop ensures a panoramic ocean view along with a raw bar, hand made pastas like the truffle cacio e pepe, and always a catch of the day. Neptune’s Net is a Malibu classic, tucked all the way up along the coast and perfect for weekend riders and beach-going families alike.

Even if you haven’t planned a beach day, you can soak up the salt air, the sun and surf. Whiskey Joe’s Bar and Grill opened its fifth location in Pensacola Beach last year. The restaurant has a mixture of beachfront and indoor seating, caters to people looking for a quick bite to eat with a carry-out window and you can even order online while you’re tanning in the sun on the sand.

The Fish House's upscale dockside dining experience overlooking Pensacola Bay and Seville Harbor isn't one to be forgotten. Grab drinks and a view on The Deck, or head inside for elevated dining. Diners will find fresh, daily seafood, house-smoked meats and sushi. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange, is the sister restaurant to Hidden Treasure Rum Bar and Grill in Ponce Inlet (see above). It's described as a laidback tavern with TVs and a close proximity to Rose Bay.
